Russian Literature

In Russia, the XVIII century. literature developed in an atmosphere of strengthening absolutist monarchy. Reforms in economy, education, culture, started by Peter I, was continued by his daughter Elizabeth, then 'enlightened queen' Catherine II. The period of the national central state corresponded to classicism, proclaiming the idea of citizenship, a sense of dominance over the debt. The founders of Russian classicism was Michael Lomonosov (1711-1765), scholar and lexicographer, who made discoveries in many fields of science – physics, chemistry, mathematics, mechanics, and he played a major role in the development of Russian culture and literature.
